Manchester based label Red Laser Records have been flying the self titled ‘Manctalo’ flag since late 2012 and have released tracks from a range of electronic artists from Manchester and beyond. These include the likes of Ste Spandex, Starion, LeonxLeon, Kid Machine and label founder Il Bosco. They are a sibling label of Manchester institution Fat City so it is no wonder they constantly deliver the goods. They are also behind the sporadic Red Laser Disco parties which gives them another platform to showcase artists releasing on the label and always pulls a music loving, but non beard stroking crowd. These parties are guaranteed fun.
Their next release is coming in June from Manchester’s own Kid Machine, who has been releasing records since 2009 on labels such as Viewlexx, Cyberdance, Flight Recorder and Red Laser Records. Described by some as the child of Kraftwerk you can certainly hear the influence of 80’s Electro on this release. ‘Invasion’ which you can hear above is real tops-off, emo-funk. Opening with heavy sweeping pads and and a nice little synth line. The track chugs along at a steady pace and would keep you stomping late into the night.
‘Martian Emotion’ slows the tempo a little and ups the attitude. Again serious stomping music and that dark, emotional, Italo sound of minor chords and a heavily arpeggiated bass. This release, as with the rest of the Red Laser releases will be limited to 300 copies and comes thoughtfully packaged for the collectors out there. Keep an eye for it on Juno and in any good local record store.
