Leeds lad Bonar Bradberry is the latest talent to feature in my record collection. In all honesty, I hadn’t really heard that much about the guy before I got hold of this little gem. However, one little search on Facebook and it turns out he’s connected to a bunch of my friends. It’s a small world, which makes it all the more strange that he’s slipped under my radar for so long.
Anyhow, I stumbled across Futurism Vol.2 a couple of weeks back and one track in particular stood out as something pretty darn special. The Dead Rose Music Company’s take on Bradberry’s This Way Up.
Whereas the rest of the EP is very heavy on the nu-boogie front (which is brilliant, don’t get me wrong), TDRMC take an altogether more serious approach with This Way Up. ‘Chugging’ is used as an adjective for down-tempo music way too much for my liking, but I can’t help myself. This is one massive fuck off chugger!
A persistent, solid beat from the offset, sexy female vocals, dramatic keys and a pounding bassline throughout. This is heads down, proper house music – as deep as you like.
Have a listen for yourselves, I’m 99.9% you won’t be disappointed.
Apologies for missing the first couple of beats in this recording. Some drunk pleb scratched the record on its first outing 🙁
If you haven’t already, I highly recommend that you give a bit of time to both Bonar Bradberry and The Dead Rose Music Company. Their SoundCloud pages can be found at:
