After a series of releases on Stilove4music, Prime Numbers, Wolf Music and Neroli, Garth BE locked himself up in the studio to lay down an organic self indulgent LP, to be released on his own new imprint SweetSticky. The label is set to be an outlet for music, which is not held back by the constraints experienced when releasing through someone else. ‘The Seven Moments’ LP was released just over a week ago on super limited vinyl – with unique hand-painted and individually stamped sleeves. Only 300 copies available. It has come as no surprise that within that time the record has almost sold-out and is already being tipped for ‘End of Year’ lists.
As suggested the LP holds 7 tracks. The first A-Side track ‘Marquis’ opens with rhodes keys backed by a super funky bass-line and an off-kilter drum track. ‘Dreamline’ is a straight up jazzy house number, livening up the LP with some fancy keyboard work. ‘Don’t Want’ takes a swerve with an MPC vocal jam, which teases the listener, with uplifting strings breaking through the hypnotic groove. Onto the B-side and “Housekeysonbrandy” goes in the direction of Detroit dance-floors, with pads which swirl around you. This would be great in a club. ‘Monday Club / Tuesday Nite’ uses a simple but highly infectious vocal loop leaving you wishing the track did go ‘On and On.’ “GYB3” shows a driving, deep house side to Garth’s production with licks of distortion, yet still keeping the funk flowing. Finally ‘Teakayo’ gives us another MPC workout, with a nice looping guitar riff and a soulful vocal to bring the LP to a close.
Fans of Theo Parrish, Moodymann, Trus’me and the like are in for a real treat here. In Garth’s own words – ‘Find your place in the cosmos and unwind your mind!’
To celebrate the release of this LP Garth is hosting a party at one of Manchester’s finest underground venues, Soup Kitchen. The event is taking place Friday 11th April, and will definitely be worth checking out if you are in the area.
