In 2007 Record Store Day was born. Hundreds of independent Record Stores celebrated their unique culture through a host of events. Think special vinyl and CD releases, guest artist appearances and performances, meet and greets with artists, in store quizzes and more. Manchester boasts some of the best record stores in the World with Vinyl Exchange, Piccadilly Records and Eastern Bloc being at the forefront of the city centre scene. This year the events are taking place over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend and one of our favourite labels of the moment, Rothmans, is hosting a 14 hour session at Manchester’s Soup Kitchen, to contribute to the festivities. Rothmans is a relatively new label with branding based around the collectable cigarette football cards from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Artists who have released on the label include Ali Renault, Timothy J Fairplay, Coyote, Tommy Walker III and Emile Strunz amongst others, and they have two releases scheduled so far this year. Rothmans Presents…… is a series of events taking place at undisclosed venues around Manchester, and this is their Launch party. To follow these events check out their facebook group linked below. A number of artists who have released, or will be releasing on the label will be providing the soundtrack and there will be free Vinyl giveaways for people who attend to show their support for the label. There will also be some vintage football being shown for visual entertainment. The event kicks off at 12PM on Saturday. With stuff going on in the cities Northern Quarter all day we recommend you drop by to sample some fine ales and food, listen to some great music and maybe bag yourself a free record.
