Ransom Note Records’ sub-label Bytes has been in operation since April 2019 and has had a stellar string of releases in that time. Focusing less on the club and more on home listening, this upcoming release from Franz Kirmann fits the brief perfectly.
Franz Kirmann has released music since 2006 and is very much on our radar due to the label he co-founded with Catalepsia in 2009; Days Of Being Wild – a firm favourite of Yet Another for a number of years.
‘Forget Me Not’ by Kirmann, released on 1st April, 2022, is a million miles away from Days Of Being Wild’s signature disco/techno/chug output of years gone by. The Frenchman’s sixth solo album is an hypnotic, ambient affair, ‘drenched in blurry melancholy, with fragments of melodies and disembodied voices reaching out through dense, textured clouds of sound.’
The album draws on Kirmann’s wide-ranging influences; from My Bloody Valentine to the Nineties movies of Wong Kar Wai and the literature of French writer Patrick Modiano – ‘stories haunted by missing persons, imprecise memories and half murmured sentences.’
The album is out on cassette and digitally on 1st April, 2022.
